After lamination cures, the surface is bumpy and uneven. Flat sanding knocks down the high spots and prepares the board for the filler coat.

Check the cure
Make sure the lamination is fully hardened.

Sand the laps
Smooth the overlap areas where cloth meets cloth.

Flat sand the deck and bottom
Use a sanding block for even pressure.

Clean the dust
Wipe down thoroughly before the next step.
